Nancy Aguilera (Panelist)

  • Co-Founder of Prime

“Born and raised in south Chicago, I learned early on what work ethic entailed. I saw my mom self-employed and my dad do what appeared to be everything, having little time to spend with my sisters and me. I wanted to get my workers’ permit early on so I can contribute to the household income. Since my parents wouldn’t allow it, I got my first job at 18 while I was studying industrial engineering at UIC College of Engineering.

Since I’ve always been independent, I had moved out and found myself getting a second and then a third job so that I wouldn’t feel like I was living paycheck to paycheck.

At 22, I found myself burnt out, going through an early quarter-life crisis and reevaluating what I thought I wanted to do. At this point I wanted to escape and started to research different ways of making money online so that I could live the digital nomad dream. I came across day trading and stumbled across the word ‘crypto;’ however, I listened to limiting beliefs and I did not pursue this path.

I allowed some time to go by, still weighing my options and then I started to see Bitcoin and Ethereum all over the news. I gave in and bought both during winter of 2017 - I immediately saw drawdown. Though somewhat disappointed, I knew that if I had invested incorrectly, there had to be a better way to go about it.

Call it fate or coincidence, my now-partner reached out, we met for coffee and in that conversation I learned that he had been day trading and had success in growing his crypto portfolio. I asked how I could go about doing the same. He told me - I focused on leverage trading in the currencies market, dabbling into commodities and indices. Once I started to pick up some traction, I set a monetary objective and eventually quit all my jobs and I’m grateful to say that I’ve been a full time trader/investor for well over three years.

In 2020 and 2021 my focus was redirected almost completely to the crypto market. I believe in DCA and mitigating your exposure to risk but I got into researching low market cap coins. I don’t care much for meme-coins or anything of that nature. I have a diversified portfolio consisting of ‘Blue Chips,’ mid-cap, low-cap, micro cap coins, NFTs, digital real estate in addition to other business endeavors.”
